The House of Ravenshire is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment for all who join our sacred community. Our Background Check Policy is designed not as a barrier, but as a safeguard — ensuring that all members and leaders may learn, grow, and practice magick in confidence and peace.
Who Is Required to Complete a Background Check
Background checks are not required for general membership. They are, however, required for the following roles within The House of Ravenshire:
- Leadership positions (High Priest/High Priestess, Council Members)
- Instructors and mentors teaching within the Academy
- Members handling finances, donations, or administrative access
- Anyone working directly with minors or vulnerable individuals
Applicants for these roles will be informed in advance and must consent to the screening before being considered.
Type of Screening Conducted
The House of Ravenshire uses basic national criminal background checks from trusted third-party services to ensure the safety of all participants.
Checks may include:
- National and state criminal databases
- Sex offender registry search
- Identity verification (SSN or equivalent validation)
No credit or financial checks will be conducted. The coven does not request or collect any personal data beyond what is needed for the screening.
Privacy and Confidentiality
All screenings are handled in the strictest confidence.
- Results are reviewed only by the Coven Council.
- Information obtained will never be shared or posted publicly.
- Records are securely deleted or destroyed after the screening process is complete.
This process is carried out with the utmost respect for personal privacy and dignity.
Consideration and Compassion
The House of Ravenshire recognizes that people can grow and change. A past record does not automatically disqualify someone from leadership or membership. Each case is reviewed individually, with focus on current conduct, accountability, and sincerity of path.
Cost and Responsibility
The cost of the background check may be included in the Application Fee or Leadership Application Fee, as determined by the Council. Applicants will be notified of any fees prior to consent.
Refusal or Withdrawal
Applicants may withdraw from the process at any time prior to the completion of the background check.
However, declining to participate in a required screening will make the individual ineligible for leadership or teaching positions.
Policy Updates
This policy may be revised by the Coven Council at any time as the needs of the community evolve. The most current version will always be published on the official website of The House of Ravenshire.
